Flooring Transitions are used to properly separate your new floors and your existing floors. The type of molding used will depend on the specific needs of your project. The types of moldings available include: T-moldings, Reducers, Quarter Rounds, End-caps and Stair-nosing.
T-Moldings are commonly used in doorways to join two floors in adjoining rooms. They are also recommended when making a transition from floor to another floor that is approximately the same height.
Reducers are used to transition from flooring to floors of different height.
Quarter Rounds are used to conceal the required expansion space between the wall and the flooring.
End Caps are used to transition from floor to carpet, masonry (fireplaces), sliding doors and other exterior door jambs.
Stair-nosing is used to round off the forward edge of the top, horizontal surface of a stair step. Stair nose molding provides a unique finish for the edge of a step, covering the exposed edges of the surface material and also helps make the step safe to walk on.
Flush Stair Nose vs. Overlapping Stair Nose - A flush stair nose connects on the same level as the flooring surface and creates a smooth and flush finish on the edges of your step where the flooring meets the transition. An overlapping stair nose will create a transition to the edge of your step where the flooring meets the transition by overlapping the flooring on the back end instead of being flush.
